Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 July 2026

This policy explains what personal information Lumen collects, how we use it, and your choices. Lumen (lumenstudy.com.au) is operated by Lumen, a sole trader based in Australia (“we”, “us”). By using Lumen you agree to this policy.

1.Who this is for

Lumen is a study tool for Australian students (Year 7 to university). You must be at least 13 to create an account. Some users may be minors. If you are under 16, please use Lumen with the involvement of a parent or guardian, and only provide information with their consent (see “Children & minors” below).

2.Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service:

  • Account details: your name and email address (and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile name, email and picture).
  • Onboarding profile: your year level, state/territory, how you heard about us, and your study goal — used to tailor exam difficulty and format.
  • Study content you create or upload: documents and notes, flashcards, quiz and exam answers, study plans, and your progress data. This content is stored locally in your browser, not on our servers (see “Where your data is stored” below).
  • Usage data: which features you use and when, and basic device/browser information.
  • Subscription status: if you upgrade to Pro, we record your plan against your account. Pro is currently activated with an access code — we never see or store card numbers or payment details.

3.How we use your information

  • To provide and personalise the service (e.g. calibrating practice exams to your year level and state).
  • To generate summaries, flashcards, quizzes, explanations and exam papers from the material you give us.
  • To operate your account, process subscriptions, and provide support.
  • To keep Lumen secure, prevent abuse, and understand how features are used so we can improve them.
  • To contact you about your account or important changes to the service.

We do not sell your personal information.

4.AI processing — important

Lumen uses trusted third-party AI providers to generate study material. When you upload a document, ask a question, or generate flashcards/quizzes/exams, the relevant text is sent to those providers to produce the result. We do not use your content to train AI models. Each provider’s handling of that data is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.

Please do not upload highly sensitive personal information (of yourself or others) into documents or chat. Only upload material you have the right to use.

5.Where your data is stored

Your study content — subjects, documents and notes, flashcards, quiz and exam results, study plans and progress — is stored locally in your browser, on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers, and it does not sync between devices or browsers. Because it lives on your device, clearing your browser’s site data (or studying in a private window) permanently deletes that content — there is no server copy for us to restore.

Your account, profile and subscription data are stored with our cloud infrastructure provider (authentication and database). That data may be processed on servers located overseas.

6.Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers who help us run Lumen, and only as needed:

  • Our third-party AI providers, to generate study content from your input.
  • Our authentication and database provider, to store your account and profile data.
  • Authorities, where required by law.

7.Cookies & local storage

Lumen uses browser local storage (and cookies where applicable) to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (like theme), and store your study content itself. Clearing this data via your browser settings will sign you out and permanently delete the study content saved on that device.

8.Data retention

We keep your account information while your account is active. If you delete your account or ask us to remove your data, we will delete it within a reasonable period, except where we must keep records to meet legal, tax or security obligations. Your study content lives in your own browser, so it is under your control — clearing your browser data removes it immediately.

9.Your rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles you can request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. To make a request, contact us at amitb202380@gmail.com. You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have mishandled your information.

10.Children & minors

Lumen is intended for students aged 13 and over, and may be used by minors. If you are under 16, a parent or guardian should review this policy and consent before you create an account or provide information. Parents/guardians can contact us at amitb202380@gmail.com to review, correct, or delete a child’s information. We collect the minimum information necessary to provide the study features.

11.Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no online service can be completely secure. Use a strong, unique password and keep your login details private.

12.Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll update the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
